Mozilla saw another decrease in market share in December last year, the amount of Firefox users continues to decline. Users of Mozilla's browser are mainly switching to Google Chrome and Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Net Applications, a company measuring browser market shares, reports Firefox is currently on 12% of computers connected to the internet, the lowest point since 2006.
Firefox lost 1.4% mainly in favor of Chrome. Google's browser gained 2.1% and currently holds a market share of 22.7%. It's the first time that Chrome passes the 22% mark according to Net Applications. Internet Explorer holds the number one position with a steady 59.1%. Thanks to 0.2% growth in December the browser passed the 59% mark for the first time.
Competitor StatCounter shows completely different numbers for Chrome and Internet Explorer but like Net Applications also reports a shrinking market share for Firefox.
According to StatCounter the open source browser lost 0.5% last month and the company reports the browser is now used by 18% of all internet users. The numbers of StatCounter show a larger growth for Internet Explorer while they report declining numbers for Chrome. Internet Explorer climbed to 24.6% from 21.7% while Chrome lost 2.1%. According to StatCounter, Chrome is now installed on 49.7% of all computers.
