Mozilla is working on an experimental system that should make it possible for Firefox to notice it's broken and then proactively and automatically heal itself. Examples could be a hijacked search engine setting which the browser will recover to its original state.
Possibly Firefox will also be able to recover from the impact of malicious or unwanted add-ons. The new measure is called "Self Heal" and was mentioned during a conversation between Firefox developers. The discussion prior to Self Heal was about signing of Firefox-add-ons which should counter the nuisance of malicious browser extensions. Through Self Heal this should be further expanded.
Meanwhile Mozilla also announced the availability of a "Self-Repair server" that should make it possible for Firefox to recover from issues it finds. Further details haven't been disclosed yet, including when the feature should become available. To counter the nuisance of malicious add-ons and malware, Google added a reset button to Chrome two years ago. This feature brings back all settings in their original state.
