First look: Pioneer Blu-ray BDR-101A

It's
great to have an international site, certainly when many new things happen in different parts of the world. In South Korea there are CD Freaks located and also people who have the same interest as us, CD Freaks. On one South Korean website they have posted a first look on an exciting new piece of hardware, the Pioneer BDR-101A. And indeed, BDR in this case means it's a Blu-ray drive!
What's even more interesting is that when this news was posted in a forum thread by our long time member Kenshin, Erik
Deppe, author of Nero CD/DVD Speed kicked in and posted some screenshots of his
software combined with this drive.

On on DVDRWInfo.net you can see some pictures of the drives, a lot of Korean text (for those who understand it), and some tables that indicate the specifications of the drive. From it we can learn the drive can write BD-R at 2x, BD-RE at 2x and it also reads back BD-ROM discs at 2x. Also more exotic formats such as DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL are supported while the drive lacks support for CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RAM
