iHaV0FrNdS used our newssubmit to tell us that Freecom will join the 40x-writer 'race' with its new 40x12x40x writer. The drive will be available in both an internal and external version:
With the Hi-Speed that are unique for an external drive, the Freecom Portable II is the optimum mobile storage solution for all PC and Mac users. Being a powerful external CD burner in a challenging design, the Portable II satisfies all requirements. Thanks to the flexible Multi-Connect system, this ultra-fast and mobile CD-RW drive can be connected to the PC or Mac via all common interfaces.
The connection facility via USB-2 and FireWire/i.LINK is probably the most interesting aspect. Energy is supplied, as is the case with all devices of the Portable II series, by the power supply. Freecom offers the external burner with the burner software Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 and Direct CD as well as Toast . A CD-R, a CD marker pen and a manual also form a part of the package.
The internal Freecom 40x12x40 CD-RW burner is the new flagship of the Internal series. This powerful 40x12x40 burner is connected to the PC over the IDE interface. Freecom supplies the internal burner together with the latest burning software ROXIO Easy CD Creator 5 and Direct CD. Moreover, the box also includes: the IDE flat cable for the connection, a CD-R, a CD marker pen and the multi-lingual manual.
The Freecom 40x12x40 CD-RW burners will be available in stores from April.
Too bad there's no information available of the technical specifications of the drive. We'll have to wait for a review to see its real performance
