I hope you all remember our previous posts about gIFT. This open-source project is trying to develop a file sharing protocol that should bring us the quality of the FastTrack protocol (KaZaA, Grokster and previously Grokster) but without spy/adware and as said totally open source.
The project does not depend on FastTrack (or the too slow Gnutella protocol) but it should be able to give the same quality of downloads, features and speed. The developers of the software have now announced the following:
As of Mar 15th, giFT CVS will now compile on Windows platforms natively with MSVC++. Unfortunately we do not have project files yet, but you may use nmake on the files in CVS. Enjoy! |
giFT (GNU Internet File Transfer) is a modular daemon able to load multiple back-end protocols exposed to the user via an XML-like interface protocol. giFT includes basic support for the FastTrack network as well as a home-grown network, OpenFT.
As I'm not a Microsoft Visual C++ developer and really have no clue what can be done with this, I'm hoping that someone that does know more about this will react below, because for as far as I understand this means there is a Windows version available of this project.
Can someone enlighten me, and is there anyone that is able to compile this and distribute it ? This could be the next big thing in filesharing!
For those intrested in gIFT, visit their site here. For the developers, here is their annoucement.
