Gateway today introduced the new 10.1-inch LT2000 netbook, offering consumers another solid netbook product for less than $300.
Gateway is a subsidiary of Acer, a company well known for producing netbooks, and received help in development from Acer. Gateway has already launched an 11.6-inch netbook a short while ago, designed for higher productivity, while the 10.1-inch model is designed to be a proper ultraportable device.
The LT200 is powered by a 1.60GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1024MB DDR2 ram, 160GB 5400 RPM HDD, and ships with Microsoft Windows XP Home. The device has a 3-cell battery and measures 10.17"x7.24"x1.03 inches and weighs just 2.62 lbs -- its weight is very similar to the Acer Aspire One netbook.
The device has an MSRP of $299.99.
With support for two built-in stereo speakers, Dolby headphone technology, a Web camera, WiFi, and a multi-in-1 digital media card reader, it's obvious Gateway is aiming the LT2000 directly at consumers.
The netbook market continues to increase in popularity, which has driven even more manufacturers to enter the mix. Consumers shopping for a netbook can now choose from Acer, Asus, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Acer, with other manufacturers expected to announce netbooks in the future. Apple reportedly is working on a new tablet device, but will aim for a higher price point to avoid engaging in a price war with the wide variety of low-cost netbooks.
