Security gurus Microsoft have given SunnComm's awe inspiring MediaMax "copy protection and enhancement technology for audio compact discs" the coveted Designed for Windows certification logo. It seems that no one at the Windows Quality Online Services team thought to press the shift key and the software passed testing with flying colors to earn the certification and listing on Microsoft's Windows Catalog web site. The "Designed for Windows" Logo Program helps consumers and enterprise customers identify products that deliver a high-quality experience with the Microsoft® Windows® operating systems. Yeah, I don't understand what SunnComm has to do with that either. Except maybe it's because MediaMax was easily defeated and was EXTREMELY popular with Windows users.
Actually, I am not so sure the shift key defeats SunnComms copy protection any longer, or whether disabling autoplay will still foil it for that matter either. I mean, a lot of things may have happened with the technology since last June, when it was still being defeated this way or by disabling the driver as described on various Internet blogs. That's because I don't buy products that use the MediaMax "technology", I avoid them like the plague. I am more interested in other type enhancements when I go shopping. But to each his own.
SunnComm and its record label customers believe that the use of MediaMax helps stem the casual and illegal copying of recorded CD music. SunnComm receives a royalty every time a commercial CD uses its MediaMax technology.
