CDRlabs.com has posted a review of the HP dvd100i DVD+RW drive. This drive writes at a maximum of 12 speed, rewrites at 10 speed, reads DVD's at 8 speed, CD-ROM's at 32 speed and writes DVD+RW discs at 2.4 speed.
The drive has HP's buffer underrun system and a 2Mb buffer and according to tests performed @ CDRlabs, it performs very well ! Here are the lows and highs:
Highs: |
Can write to DVD+RW media at 2.4x.
The drive's 12x writing and 10x rewritings speeds are faster than current CD-RW/DVD-RW drives.
Features HP's buffer underrun protection.
Can read most CD and DVD formats.
Pretty good data CD read speeds with all types of media including CD-RW discs.
Good DVD read speeds.
Good DAE speeds.
Can format DVD+RW discs in the background. Ready to write in about a minute!
Very good software package. There is a program for pretty much every need.
One of the more affordable DVD+RW drives available.
Lows:
Cannot read DVD-RW discs.
The drive had a tendency to spin down when doing DAE with pressed audio CD's.
Media is still expensive.
No write-once format (yet).
The manuals could be better. The drive's specs and supported formats are not listed anywhere.
