Spotted this on DVDwriter.co.uk. While we recently posted about someone that was thinking about sueing Pioneer for misleading advertisements, it seems that also Hewlett Packard has been naughty.
On this thread is clearly stated that HP has been advertising their DVD100i drive being capable of writing DVD+R discs. But it seems that they will never support the format:
I have lodged a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission in reference to HP's DVD100i. Stating that HP used fraudulent methods advertising the capabilities/upgradibility of the drive via a firmware upgrade to +R by retracting the statements. |
My decision to purchase was based upon those statements. I incourage EVERYONE who purchased a 1st gen drive from any of the allience members based upon false statements to also file. There is power in numbers and if enough people complain something will be done... the URL is http://www.ftc.gov filing a complaint is not limited to US Citizens
I would strongly recommend everyone that has this drive and is hoping for support for the format to read this thread. If you have bought an expensive drive like this you should get where you paid for.
