We reported before about this drive that was marketed to support DVD+R, but HP has announced the drive will never support the format:

In response to customer inquiries, HP is initiating a program for current owners of the HP DVD Writer dvd100i.
NOTE: The HP dvd100i offers write-support for CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD+RW media only. Write-support for DVD+R media is neither planned nor technically feasible for the HP dvd100i model.
What is included in the HP dvd100i Trade-In Program:
DVD Writer drive with DVD + R write capability.
NOTE: The replacement HP DVD Writer will have a lighter faceplate color than the HP dvd100i faceplate integrated into Pavilion computers.
A software upgrade including ArcSoft ShowBiz video editing software, new versions of MyDVD from Sonic, HP DLA by Veritas, HP RecordNow by Veritas, and Power DVD by Cyberlink (new software valued at $179 US) One blank DVD+R disc A full, one-year limited warranty $99 US dollar payment required (Exact payments will be specified by region)
