International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation launches new support products that can back hybrid multicloud environments and provide guaranteed file system protection.
The new IBM Spectrum Protect 8.1.10 and IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.6 are now available for ordering with the IBM FlashSystem storage. These two products are designed to expand the Windows environment and further support the Elastic Block Store (EBS) capabilities.
The highlight of these new innovations includes the support for multicloud environments like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). These products help business owners to lower the cost and gain air gap protection.
By utilizing the long-term data retention function, the Spectrum Protect and Protect Plus will create a copy on tape and optimize the cloud DR.
According to the company website, the Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.10 is designed for Linux servers and AIX.
“IBM Spectrum Protect enables you to protect your organization’s data from failures and other errors by storing backup and archive data in the hierarchy of online and offline storage. The core functions of IBM Spectrum Protect include backup and recovery management, and archive management,” posted IBM.
Enforce Stricter Security Settings
The multinational company is gearing towards improving its clients’ data storage and operating systems capabilities, highlighting security. According to the company website, the new version of the Spectrum Protect enforces stricter security settings.
Enhancements were added to fix data errors, improve job monitoring, and database-level backup progress indicators. The Oracle databases are also improved, running the Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System (ACFS).
More than security, IBM also focuses on agentless data protection, allowing companies to hire no additional personnel to look over the system. Through Windows physical and VMs, companies can easily monitor the progress and data storage security.
Effective Copy Data Management
IBM clients who upgrade to the Spectrum Protect and Protect Plus can enjoy improved copy data management. This system makes copies available to consumers when they need it the most. This works without creating separate, unnecessary copies that pile up the storage.
Additionally, the product also catalogs data across the local and hybrid cloud and off-site cloud infrastructure. It identifies any duplicate and automatically compares copy requests to existing copies.
A separate product, Copy Data Management Starter Edition, is available to be ordered with the IBM FlashSystem storage. It is part of the Spectrum Protect portfolio, giving clients flexibility in experience.
