A trade organisation in India considers a radical idea to target pirates. The organisation has proposed to stop releasing movies. By not releasing movies for three months the organisations hope to curb piracy.
By putting pirates aside for three months, the organisation hopes to hit movie pirates hard. The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) states that movie producers had a hard time the last two years due to piracy and therefore considers the radical step.
"Piracy stops if there's no content", according to the logic of TFPC. The moratorium of three months gives Bollywood also time to roll out new DRM measures, according to the organisation.
Movie producers aren't very enthusiastic about the idea. By not releasing new movies for 3 months, all new movies would be released immediately after the 3 month stop. The movies then heavily compete with each other for attention of the audience which results in even bigger losses for individual movie producers.
