Intel has added a 180 GB version to its 335 series SSDs for consumers. Till now the 335 series consisted of only a 240 GB drive Rumors said that also a 80 GB drive should become available, but that one hasn't been officially announced yet.
The introduction of the 180 GB 335 series SSD doesn't come as a surprise. At the end of December 2012 there were rumors that Intel would release more drives in its high-end line up. Intel now added the drive to its product page, although the drive isn't in the SSD overview page.
The 180 GB also popped up at several webshops as the SSDSC2CT180A4K5. The webshops stated that the drive would become available at the 1st of February 2013.
With the new drive also a new look has been introduced. The upside of the drive now has a sticker with a electronic circuit design. The edges of the drive are fitted with plastic.
The drive contains 20 nm NAND chips and contain a SandForce SF2281 controller. Performance wise Intel specifies read speeds of 500 MB/s and write speeds of 450 MB/s. The 180 GB 335 series SSD has a MSRP of $180.
