Intel has launched new affordable 540 series SSDs based on TLC NAND from SK Hynix and a Silicon Motion controller. The drives aren't entirely TLC, Intel boasts that the drives also feature some SLC NAND as cache but it's secretive about the amount.

The drives will be available in both the 2.5-inch and M.2 form factors with storage capacities ranging from 120GB to 1TB. Intel specifies performance of read speeds of up to 560MB/s and write speeds of 480 MB/s.
The controller is a Silicon Motion SM2256 with support for 256bit AES encryption.
