The Japanese website pc.impress.watch.co.jp has made a preview of Plextor's coming 12x DVD writer, the PX-712A. 12x burning is tested on Ricoh 8x DVD+R and Maxell 8x DVD+R but unfortunately it looks like only the Maxell media is really written at 12x speed. From a screenshot of CD-DVD Speed's create data disc function we can see that the PX-712A uses P-CAV technique where it starts at 6x speed and reaches 12x speed when about 2.7 GB of the disc is burnt. The burn time is 6:11 and the average speed is 10.34x.
The preview
has burn times of 8x/4x DVD±R/RW too and they are compared with the burn times
of the NEC ND-2500A. There are also some screenshots from PlexTools
Professional 2.12. The complete article (translated by Babelfish ) is available here. Thanks to dvdendec for submitting the news!
