LG GCC-4480B 48/24/48/16 CDRW/DVD-ROM review @ CDRLabs.com

Our friends from CDRLabs have finished up another review. This time they tested the LG GCC-4480B combo in their labs. This drive is able to write CDRs at 48 speed, CDRWs at 24 speed and reads CD-ROM discs at 48 speed, and DVD-ROM discs at 16 speed. By numbers it is one of the fastest combo drives currently available, but is it also really one of the best?

Part of conclusion:

The GCC-4480B's writing and rewriting performance was a mixed bag. On one hand, the drive's rewriting performance was very good. Thanks to its 24x rewriting speeds, the GCC-4480B had no problems outperforming the other combo drives we've tested. On the other hand, while the GCC-4480B's media compatibility and writing quality were pretty good, its writing times were not as fast as some of the other 48x writers we've looked at, including the Samsung SM-348B.

And then you have the GCC-4480B's DVD performance. To be honest, I expected a little more from a drive with 16x DVD read speeds. The GCC-4480B came very close to 16x when reading single layer DVD-ROM's, but was a lot slower when reading DVD movies. And, while the GCC-4480B had no problems reading DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs, its read speed was limited to only 6x.

If you want to read more about the performance of the drive, and see if it's an award winning one, then head over to CDRLabs to read the entire review!
