LG GSA-4163B 16x Super-Multi DVD±RW/RAM review @ CDRlabs

More LG
news today as our friends from CDRLabs have posted another review on their website. This time the LG GSA-4136B was the
victim of all the tests performed by Digital Dolphin. This drive is able to
write to DVD-R and DVD+R discs at 16 speed and is one of the few drives that
also supports DVD-RAM. It writes this exotic but rapidly becoming more popular
DVD format at 5 speed, currently the fastest DVD-RAM writing speed. Overall the
drive performed very well, here is a part of the conclusion.

Part of
conclusion:

The 16x DVD±R discs from both Maxell and Verbatim's performed
quite well in this regard, although even these premium brand name discs
showed higher then normal levels of jitter, a sign that perhaps the media
was being pushed a little too hard when recorded at maximum speed. Other 16x discs, from companies such as Fuji,
Memorex, and RiData, showed even more signs that they were having trouble
at that speed, as both their PIE/PIF and jitter rates were quite high.

On the bright side, the drive performed incredibly well on almost
every disc recorded at 8x or lower. I have strong faith that with a little
more firmware tweaking, 16x single layer, and even dual layer recording
could be made quite stable and
effective.

For the entire conclusion you should read the entire
review. Note that more than 100 different brands of media have been tested
with this drive in this review! Also be sure to read our review on this drive
and to discuss this in our LG
Forum
