Mr. Belvedere used our newssubmit to tell us that LG will introduce a multiburner supporting no less than five formats:
The GMA-4020B named gadget burns DVD-RAM and DVD-RW with 2x, DVD-R with single speed. For CD-R it provides 12x, for CD-RWs 8x speed. 8 Mbytes cache memory and Buffer-Underrun Proof technology shall protect the user from burned blanks.
Used as read drive the GMA-4020B reads DVDs with 10x, CD-ROMs with 12x speed. In April the gadget shall be available for €499 in small number of pieces. According to LG by June the latest mass-delivery shall take place.
At present customers still strongly abstain from buying a DVD burner. The reason is, according to LG Electronics, the chaos caused by different write formats. But as the new burner supports at least three of the four customary DVD write formats, exempted DVD+RW, the manufacturer hopes to sell 40,000 gadgets in the current year.
As you can read in this newspost manufacturers will focus more on a unit that supports several DVD-formats instead of waiting for just one standard for DVD writing...
