LG has officially launched two new high-definition TV units that are able to stream the Netflix movie service directly through the TV.
The company is now shipping the 50-inch 50PS80 plasma and 77-inch 47LH50 LCD units, with two other units (42-inch LCD 42LH50 and 60-inch 60PS80 plasma) expected to launch later in the summer.
The 47-inch ($2,100 MSRP) and 50-inch plasma ($2,100 MSRP) are full HD 1080p while the 42-inch LCD TV ($1,700 MSRP) and 60-inch plasma ($3,200 MSRP) are expected to sell well after release.
Owners will be able to pay a minimum $8.99 per month for instant access to Netflix, which continues to expand its streaming catalog of standard definition and HD content.
LG first announced these new Netflix-ready units during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January. Depending on the success of these Netflix-ready TV units, it's likely LG will announce similar connected TVs next year.
As viewers in the living room continue to adopt connected TVs, expect a growing number of TVs and other devices that are capable of streaming content. For example, LG and other companies are now offering standalone Blu-ray players that are able to stream content, while game consoles also have the same ability.
LG and other manufacturers are relying heavily on Netflix to help draw in consumers, though it seems to be working as Netflix's subscriber base has grown significantly.
