Lite-On LSC-24081MX (external combo) review @ CDRLabs

Lite-On's engineers have done a great job with their new portable combo drive. While small in size, the LSC-24081MX offers the same level of value, performance and features we've come to expect from Lite-On's other drives.

The LSC-24081MX also has some of the fastest writing and rewriting speeds currently available on a portable drive. With this in mind, it shouldn't be surprising that it did very well in our writing tests, taking about six and a half minutes to burn an entire 80 minute CD. Lite-On's new combo drive is also one of the first portable drives to feature 12x rewriting speeds. In most cases, the LSC-24081MX was a good 30 to 45 seconds faster than some of the drives we've tested with 10x rewriting speeds.

When it came time to read DVD's, the LSC-24081MX definitely didn't disappoint. The drive was able to read single layer DVD's at 8x in our tests, but slowed down to 6x for dual layer discs. Lite-On's new combo drive also had no problems reading DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW media making it a good choice for those of you that own DVD writers.
