Lite-On SOHW-1633S double layer 16x DVD±RW review @ CDRLabs

Ian of
CDRLabs took some time again to take a look at a DVD recorder. This time the
Lite-On SOHW-1633S became his victim and Ian has put it on the test bench to see
what it able to do. Lite-On is amongst the most popular brands and are
responsible for a big global marketshare. Their CD-RW drives impressed
many, their DVD recorders are less popular. The SOHW-1633S writes DVD+R at 16x,
DVD-R at 8x, DVD+RW and DVD-RW at 4x , CD-Rs at 48x and CD-RWs at 24x but it
didn't do it very impressive as CDRLabs reports.

Part of
conclusion:

While fast, finding compatible media was not an easy task with the
SOHW-1633S. Unlike the16x DVD writers from NEC and Pioneer, it cannot
write to 8x DVD+R media at 16x. This is something that many people will
probably miss, as 16x DVD+R media is currently hard to find, not to
mention expensive. Writing quality was also an issue with the SOHW-1633S.
As we showed you in our tests, there were a number of cases where the
PI/PIF rates were quite high. Hopefully, Lite-On can fix this in a future
firmware update.

You can read all tests and the entire conclusion if you
head over to the CDRLabs review. If you would like a second opinion on this drive
then head over to our Lite-On Forums to see what others say about it.
