Our friends from CDRLabs
gave Memorex's 4x DVD±RW drive a go in their labs. This drive is based
on Pioneer's award winning DVD±RW and offers 4x DVD±R, 2.4x DVD+RW and 2x DVD-RW
writing speeds as well as a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. The drive also has
features like 16x CD writing speeds, 32x CD read speeds and support for buffer
underrun protection.

Like the Pioneer drive it's based on, the Dual-X can write to both DVD-R and DVD+R media at 4x. While this is no match for some of the new 8x DVD writers that have started to ship, it's fast enough to burn an entire DVD in less than 15 minutes. The Dual-X also performed pretty well with DVD-RW and DVD+RW media, but could not keep up with the Sony DRU-510A and its 4x DVD+RW writing speeds.
