Memorex F16 Double Layer 16x DVD±RW review @ CDRLabs.com

Our
friends from CDRLabs have posted a review on the Memorex F16 dual layer 16x dual
format DVD recorder. The Memorex drive is based on Lite-On internals and has the
same specificiations as Lite-On's DVD recorder: 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD+RW
and 4x DVD-RW. The drive also supports the DVD+R DL format at 2.4x . Memorex
drives have a pretty decent reputation and Lite-On as well. So we are very
curious about the performance of this drive and overall the drive performed very
well. Nevertheless, as always there were some points that could be
improved:

Part of
conclusion:

While the F16 has a few rough spots that need
to be worked out, it's still a pretty good example of what we've come to
expect from Memorex. Based on the Lite-On SOHW-1633S, this consumer
friendly drive offers good looks, lots of features and some of the fastest
DVD reading and writing speeds available.

Like the Lite-On drive it's based on, the F16 can write to DVD+R media
at 16x. At this speed, the drive completed our tests in record time,
turning out an entire 4.7GB DVD in less than 6 minutes. Unfortunately, the
F16's performance wasn't as impressive when writing to DVD-R media. Due to
a fairly conservative writing method, it was more than a minute slower
than some of the other drives we've looked at. Memorex's drive performed
pretty well with other types of recordable media. It turned in some very
good writing times with both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media, and while not
exactly fast, performed as expected when writing to DVD+R DL discs.

If you are looking to buy this drive or are just curious
how it performed in the CDRLabs then you should really head over to CDRLabs to
read
the rest. Feel free to get a second opinion from the guys in worlds
most popular Recording Hardware Forum.
