Microsoft today revealed a new Nokia phone, the Nokia 215. Although the company no longer uses Nokia branding on its Lumia smartphones, Microsoft has a license to use the Nokia brand on cheap phones.
The Nokia 215 is certainly a cheap phone at $29. It has a 2.4" screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels which supports Glimp, a feature also found on Lumia phones. Glimp displays time and information on the screen without the user having to touch a button.

The Nokia 215 measures 11.6 x 5 mm and weight 78 gram. It runs an operating system which Microsoft calls Series 30+ which is the successor of Nokia's Series 30, an OS Nokia uses for years already on cheap mobile phones.
The device is able to connect to 2G networks and has Bluetooth 3.0 but doesn't support 3G, 4G and Wifi. The battery has a capacity of 1100 mAh which should be enough for 20 hours call time or 29 days standby time. With a 0.3 megapixel camera the Nokia 215 is able to make videos at 320 x 240 pixels and Microsoft plans to release both a single and dual sim version.
The phone has Facebook and Facebook Messenger pre-installed and should become available the coming months.
While Microsoft no longer uses the Nokia brands for smartphones on its Lumia series, the company still has a license for 10 years to sell cheap mobile phones under the Nokia brand. The Finnish Nokia also develops its own hardware again, in November last year the company announced a tablet.
