In its first foray into the hardware business and gaming industry, Microsoft is set to compete with advanced machines from Japanese rivals Sony and Nintendo.Nintendo said last Thursday it would delay the U.S. launch of its next-generation GameCube console to Nov. 18 from Nov. 5 so it could have more machines in stock ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday at the end of November. |
Analysts had said Microsoft could push back the Japanese launch to next March, when schools go on spring break, to ensure an adequate supply of consoles in the United States during the holiday-shopping season.
Earlier in month Microsoft defended itself against a report of a flaw in the motherboard for the Xbox game console.
Microsoft plans to ship 1.5 million boxes in the US this year... if it doesn't get delayed.
