MPAA illegal payoffs to NYPD?

According to New York Post, two NYPD
veterans are being investigated for allegedly accepting illegal payoffs from MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) in return of arresting vendors of pirated DVD's.

MPAA would give some tips to the officers, which is the normal situation is this case, and then the officers would confiscate the stock and arrest the sellers. The improper practice on this is that after the arrestments, the task force officers would receive gratuities of several hundred dollars from the MPAA itself or its investigators, says New York Post.

"We don't give cash to police officers," said Bill Shannon, an MPAA anti-piracy official.

We work with law-enforcement organizations by providing information and logistical support, and the police make the arrests."

As expected, MPAA denied everything and no charges
have been filled against the officers nor was their duty modified. The effort to bust video and DVD pirates continues, but now I wonder who's on the illegal
side...discuss this and other legal issues in
