MSI DR16-B Double Layer 16x DVD±RW review @ CDRLabs.com

Our
friends from CDRLabs have put up a review on the MSI DR16-B dual layer DVD
recorder. This drive writes both DVD-R and DVD+R discs at 16 speed and DVD-RW
and DVD+RW at 4x. The drive is based on the BenQ 1620 but it seems that the MSI
guys need to tweak it a little bit as it doesn't have the same performance.

conclusion:

When it came to media compatibility, the DR16-B gave us some mixed
results. MSI's new DVD writer wrote to most of our test media at its rated
speed or better and was even able to write to some 8x DVD+R media at 16x.
Finding DVD-R media that would work at this speed wasn't easy though.
While most of our test media worked at 12x, the drive wrote to only one
type at 16x. Writing quality was also an issue with the DR16-B as there
were a number of cases where the PI/PIF rates were very high. Hopefully,
MSI can fix this in a future firmware update.

The BenQ is at the moment amongst the hottest drives
available as you can read in our review so who knows what the firmware team of MSI can
improve the coming time. Read the entire
