A while ago we reported that Napster was going to use an acoustic fingerprint system. Napster 2.0 Beta 10 has this built in, and therefor I would not recommend it for download.
I assume that Napster will put a watermark on your files, so either you will have to make your files read-only or share them from CD. And besides this fingerprinting, Napster is also using a filter. Anyways, here is the changelog:
- Introduced the first step of a new acoustic fingerprinting technology that will help Napster accurately identify files
- You'll have an easier time transferring files -- fewer transfer errors and timeouts
- Click on the CDNOW button that has been added to the application to conveniently purchase music of your choice
- Add a minus sign before a search term to exclude that term from your search results
- Many minor bugs have been fixed
