NEC announces ND-2300A at IFA, 8x dual-format DVD recorder

Via the German Heise Online website we can read that NEC has announced the ND-2300A drive at IFA Berlin. A while back we already reported that NEC would announce the drive at this consumer electronics conference but at that time it was unsure which speeds the new drive would support. According to the information posted on Heise Online the drive will support 8x recording to both DVD-R and DVD+R media. Once again we must give credits to CDRLabs.com for spotting this news:

NEC announced surprisingly the new DVD burner ND-2300A, which describes DVD+R and DVD-R with 8X. Although by the DVD forum still no 8X specification has been discharged, NEC already plans the introduction of the plus minus burner before Christmas. In ten minutes it is to record a complete DVD. These data speak for the fact that the equipment starts the writing process at six speed and only at the external area the maximum burning speed is reached. In the internal area hardly more than 6X can be attained, since in addition the blank would have to also rotate over 10.000 revolutions per minute, which would bring large problems with itself.

According to Heise Online, NEC will also release another drive in October of this year, the ND-2100A which will only support the DVD+R format. This NEC ND-2100A will cost around €299 EUR while the ND-2300A drive will cost a little more, around €333 EUR. Last but not least the German article adds that the ND-2300A drive will support 32x CD-R recording and 24x CD-RW recording.
