About 17 million Netflix subscribers in the United States will see their monthly fee increase with $2, starting next month. Early subscribers never saw an increase on their $7.99 price plan but that comes to an end. The subscription for new subscribers was earlier already increased to $8.99 and $9.99 in October 2015.

The current $7.99 plan subscribers will now move to Netflix's $9.99 plan and according to Business Insider this will affect 36% of the subscribers in the United States. This accounts for 17 million subscribers to the video streaming service who see a $2 a month price increase.
For the large majority of these subscribers the price increase will come as a surprise. A JP Morgan survey revealed that 80% of the current $7.99 plan subscribers was unaware of the price hike.
The $9.99 standard plan allows watching 2 streams at the same time and offers HD quality (but no Ultra HD).
