OCZ working on new SSD controller and will sell TLC based SSDs

OCZ  is working on a new SSD controller called Jetstream Express and the company will launch Triple Level Cell (TLC) NAND based SSDs later this year. The CEO of the company told this to AnandTech in an interview. The Jetstream Express controller is already in development for 1.5 year and should become available at the beginning of 2015.

OCZ aims to leverage Toshiba's 3D-NAND with the new controller and the company plans to use them for both consumer and enterprise SSDs. The Jetstream Express will be PCIe controller with support for SATA.

In the same interview the CEO also states that Toshiba plans to launch its first TLC NAND based SSDs this year. TLC NAND is cheaper than the widely used MLC NAND and can be found on most cheaper drives in the market. The TLC drive from Toshiba will also use a Toshiba controller, but OCZ will very likely end up selling the same drive by its own name to service those looking for  lower priced SSDs.
