Although OCZ recently sent out a press mailing stating it would announce a new Vector series SSDs at Computex, other sites already found out details on OCZ's new drive. The new Vector SSD series has received the number 180. OCZ states the Vector 180 series SSDs are aimed at the enthusiast/entry level server market.
The Vector 180 drives feature a Indilinx Barefoot 3 M00 controller combined with Toshiba's latest generation A19nm MLC Toggle NAND. OCZ specifies performance of up to 550MB/s and 100,000 IOPS.
The guys from CustomPCReview.com have talked to OCZ's Storage Solution Executive VP & CMO Alex Mei who told them that a number of companies were buying consumer drives to use in datacenters. Although OCZ always targeted its Vector series to consumers, the Vector 180 series should also appeal the enterprise market.
OCZ hopes to serve this market by providing higher endurance, more warranty and partial power loss protection while keeping the price at the high-end consumer market.
The Vector 180 series SSDs will be available in capacities up to a 960GB. Pricing and availability is still unknown at this time.
