We can read over at Digit-Life that Pioneer is announcing their DVR-A07-J dual format recorder. Available late February, at least in Japan, in either black or white. Apparently, the unit is based on the A06, offering increased recording speeds. Here is a nice picture from the Digit-Life page and a quote that can be found on Pioneers web site giving us some more information about the drive.
| January 21, 2004, Tokyo, Japan - Pioneer Corporation announced today the introduction of the DVR-A07-J (white) and DVR-A07-J-BK (black), new DVD/CD internal writers that offer fast write speeds, high quality writing and reliability with substantially low operation noise. They are expected to be available in Japan, late in February, 2004, with a monthly production of 10,000 units each. The new DVD writers are the fastest rewritable drives, capable of writing at up to 8x speed on DVD±R discs, and at up to 4x speed on DVD±RW discs. Also, they can read the DVD-RAM discs, meaning that these new writers can respond to a variety of PC user needs.
In addition to the use of dustproof and soundproof pads, the "honeycomb-structure" case, the "Performance Adjusting Firmware" and the "Performance Adjusting Utility" help the new writers realize an operating-noise reduction of about 75%*2, compared with previous Pioneer models. The new writers also employ various Pioneer-developed eminent technologies to increase the writing quality and reliability for high-speed writing: Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator, Smart Laser Driver, Ultra Dynamic Resonance Absorber, Distributed Defect Real Management System (with the use of SAI's WriteDVD! software, included in the unit), Precision Recording Technology, and others. *1. According to Pioneer's comparison test of 8X-speed writing on DVD-R/DVD+R discs with other companies' rewritable drives available in December, 2003. |
