Plextor announces external version of PX-716A, the PX-716UF

Plextor Europe has just sent us a press release in which they announce the external version of their previously announced PX-716A dual layer recorder. Of course, this external version, model PX-716UF, will support the same technologies as found on the internal version. The PX-716UF will have support for both the USB 2.0 and FireWire interface.

Plextor today launches the PX-716UF, its first external double layer, dual format DVD burner that sets the standard for external writing speeds '“ following on from the recently announced internal PX-716A drive. It is capable of burning four hours of high quality MPEG 2/DVD, up to 8.5GB and burns a single layer DVD under six minutes. This stylish, silver external USB2.0 and IEEE1394 (FireWire) DVD burner is ideal for users who want the convenience of an external unit together with ultimate performance - 16x for DVD +/- and 4x for DVD + R DL (Double Layer).

Not only is this one of the fastest external drives in the market, but as Plextor is renowned for premium quality equipment, it comes complete with new 'Intelligent Recording' technology to ensure the quality of reading and writing functions:

'AutoStrategy' is a self-learning writing technology to optimise the writing quality on any type of media
'IntelligentTilt' controls the laser in three dimensions, to ensure high quality writing and reading if the disc surface has imperfections

According to the press release the Plextor PX-716UF will be
available from the end of November for a recommended retail price of
249 EUR (excl. VAT). The drive will come with a 2-year warranty in the EU,
Norway and Switzerland (Collect & Return) and 1 year in other
