On
the website of Plextor Japan we can find a page that lists the Plextor PX-605A.
This drive will not be the much anticipated 16x dual layer recorder of
Plextor. According to the Japanese website PCWatch the drive is an OEM of a Panasonic
(Matsushita) drive. The drive will record DVD-R and DVD+R at 8x, DVD-RAM at
5x (in cartridge), DVD-RW and DVD+RW at 4x. It also writes CD-R's and does this
at 24x, CD-RW's are written at 16 speed.
The drive has a buffer of 2 MB
and seems to be mainly targetted to the Japanese market. In Japan the DVD-RAM
format is also much more popular as where in Europe and the US where DVD-RAM is
hardly used in PC DVD recorders. Plextor expects that because DVD-RAM is widely
used in stand alone recorders users will edit the discs in their PCs. No
information about Plextools Professional and PI/PO testing has been made
