Ian from
CDRLabs took once again some time to take a look at a DVD recorder. The latest
victim is the Plextor PX-712A. This is Plextors serial-ATA DVD recorder which
records DVD-R discs at 8x and DVD+R discs at 12x. Besides that, the drive has
features like 48x CD reading and writing speeds, 24x CD-RW writing and
support for Plextor's PoweRec, VariRec, GigaRec, SecuRec and Q-Check.
conclusion: While faster drives have started to ship, the PX-712SA's DVD writing performance is still very impressive. When writing to DVD+R media at 12x, the drive took a little more than 6 minutes to burn an entire 4.7GB DVD. The PX-712SA wasn't as fast when writing to DVD-R media at 8x. However, thanks to its P-CAV writing method, it still turned in some very good times. The PX-712SA also performed pretty well in our rewriting tests. While not the fastest drive we've tested, it had no problems holding its own with both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media |
If you're intrested in the rest of the performance of
this drive then head over to CDRLabs. Of course our Plextor Forum is also a good place to learn more
about this drive
