Plextor PX 740A review at CDRLabs

Ian from
our friends over at CDR Labs has just pulled out an other very interesting
review. This time he had an eye on Plextors latest drive, the PX-740A. The drive
features 16x DVD+/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 8x DVD+R DL, 6x DVD-RW, 6x DVD-R DL and it
reads DVD with up to 16x speed.

Here is a part of his conclusion:

Without a doubt, Plextor produces some of the best DVD writers around. Offering impressive performance and
innovative features, their drives have repeatedly raised the bar for the
rest of the industry. Unfortunately, they also come with a hefty price
tag, putting them out of the reach of many consumers. For these people,
Plextor has introduced the PX-740A. Based on the
BenQ DW1640, the PX-740A delivers the performance people
have come to expect, but at a more affordable price.

The PX-740A didn't disappoint when it came to writing
DVD's. Thanks to its 16x DVD+R and DVD-R writing speeds, it
took the drive about 6 minutes to burn an entire 4.7GB DVD. This level of
performance carried over to our rewriting tests where Plextor's new drive
turned in some very good times with both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media.
Writing to DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media wasn't a problem for the PX-740A
either. While the drive's 4x DVD-R DL writing speed put it at a
disadvantage in some of our tests, it made up for it by burning an entire
DVD+R DL disc in a little more than 15 minutes.
