Well we all know it already, copy protected CD's suck. Of course we still have the fun of the experience of backing them up, but besides that, they just suck.
The record companies behind them will have to stop using them because according to an article on HollywoodReporter.com they also annoy people:
"A CD purchaser has a reasonable expectation of making copies for personal use," said Eric Scheirer, analyst in the media and entertainment group at Forrester Research. "And of much more concern, CD players that use CD-ROM technology without the consumer necessarily realizing it, such as high-end car stereos, will not play them."
Macrovision Corp.'s SafeAudio prevents CD-to-PC copying but does allow the more technically minded to duplicate CDs. Midbar Tech's Cactus Data Shield and SunnComm's MediaCloQ prevent both types of copying.
No verified releases in North America use Cactus, but several are circulating in Europe. The current album by popular Czech Republic singer Dan Barta, who records for Sony Music/BonTon, has a sticker on it with a crossed-out cartoon of a very unhappy computer and the words "Nelze Prehrat v PC" (cannot be played in PC).
Well to be honest, I would love to see the technology behind it evolve. They know we will bypass it eventually, and they know it's useless.
If they keep using these tactics also the average home user will hate the music industry and that could be the end of the industry as it is right now. Well, that's what I hope
