Over at Music Industry News, we hear that RealNetworks is announcing that Rhapsody hit a half million song threshold per day in August. This adds up to more than 16 million on-demand songs to RHAPSODY subscribers in one month. The service has more than doubled the number of songs streamed to customers each month. Congratulations to a group of folks that seem to be on the right track providing a great new service that allows the burning of CDS for just 79 cents per song.

RealNetworks also announced that PC World honored RHAPSODY with a PC World Best Buy Award in its September 2003 issue, which includes a review of leading legal online music services. In 2003, RHAPSODY has also been honored with a PC World 2003 World Class Award for "Best Streaming Audio Service" and a PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award, that magazine's highest editorial honor. |
We can also read in the article that today's news comes three weeks after RealNetworks launched a new distribution relationship with Best Buy, Inc., North America's largest consumer electronics retailer, and joined Best Buy and EMI Music in making The Rolling Stones' catalog of historic recordings for EMI Music's Virgin Records available in legitimate digital format for the first time ever. Best Buy now sells subscriptions to the award-winning service at all U.S. Best Buy stores nationwide, giving consumers the convenience of signing up for a 14-day free RHAPSODY trial at any of more than 560 Best Buy stores. You can learn more about Rhapsody and also receive a free trial at the RealNetworks website.
