Something that is pretty clear at this moment is that CD recorders are currently rapidly replaced by DVD recorders. More and more people discover the benefits of optical storage solutions and while CDRW drive sales are going strong, the raise of sales in DVDRW drives is also very evident. According to a recent research in 2008 over 42 million units should be sold.
According to Strategy Analytics, the number of DVD video recorder units sold in the US, Europe and Japan will rise from 2.7 million by the end of this year. This year's growth, notes Strategy, will represent a 108% jump over last year. Strategy explains that Japanese DVD player owners are currently switching to recorders and that the US and Europe should soon follow. Strategy predicts that DVD recorder unit sales will jump by 276% next year over this year. |
Currently most people own a DVD player, and a DVD recorder will be the next step. People will only have to decide wether to buy a PC recorder, a standalone recorder, a DVD-RW, a DVD+RW or a dual format one. But most important of course MPEG-4 support
