Ricoh's MP9200A review @ CDRWCentral

Ian from CDRWcentral took the time to take a look at Ricoh's DVD/CD-RW combo drive the MP9200A. The MP9200A is a 12x DVD Reader, 20x CD-Recorder 10x CD-RW Recorder and a 40x CD-ROM reader all in one unit. It has a 2 MB buffer and uses the ATAPI interface to connect to the PC.

The drives comes with Nero 5.5 and has Ricoh's Justlink and Justspeed technology on board. The drive also supports everything possible in CloneCD, CDRWcentral tests showed it could not make working SafeDisc1 and SafeDisc2 working backups.

Conclusion:

Here Ricoh has again produced a nice Combo drive that's got all that one needs in an 'all-in-one' package. The MP9200A supports 20x Z-CLV writing speed, 10x re-writing, 40x reading and 12x DVD reading speed. The drive's overall performance with CD-R media is good and it is a bit faster than the MP7200. The drives DVD playback performance is very good, problems that we had from the previous MP9120A model seem to have been fixed in this drive. You will need a PC that has some grunt to use the MP9200 when playing DVD titles. The thing that lets the MP9200A down is the fact that it can not make working backups of protected CD's, this will make some users look at other options when buying a CD-RW Recorder, but if you are not worried about producing backups of some of your favorite disc's, and require a DVD Players as well, but are limited to spare bays, then the Ricoh MP9200A will do just fine.
