The German publisher Heise reports that S.A.D. have given up their lawsuit against the IFPI for distributing their Copycount patch during a hearing at court. The Copycount patch allowed users to create up to 3 backups of each CSS protected DVD.
Munich I, the software publisher S.A.D. has taken back its appeal against the preliminary injunction. They accepted the court order that prohibited distributing a patch for the DVD copying software "MovieJack" as a final decision, according to IFPI-lawyer Johannes Waldorf. The court made "very clear" that circumventing a copy protections could never be legal. S.A.D. was not yet available for a comment. |
Fortunately we do not have to rely on transcoders with an integrated ability to read CSS protected DVDs, as there are some free programs around that do the job.
