Samsung 32x/10x/40x-12x Combo review @ Tech Zone

On The Tech Zone we can find another Samsung review. This time it is the their latest combo drive (the SM-332) with 32x read, 10x rewrite, 40x write, and 12x DVD read speeds. It is the fastest combo around and also not that expensive ($129.99).

Once again, we have a fast, well performing, quiet drive from the good people at Samsung. The SM-332 is every bit as fast as the SW-240 we reviewed, proving that combo drives no longer have to suck. Using this drive has actually been a pleasure. Although not as fast as any 40x burner, I'm not exactly concerned about a difference of 35 seconds. You know why? Because this drive is the fastest combo drive on the market. It's faster than the Plextor, and from some reports I've heard it's quieter.

I'm still a perfectionist though, and I have to bug about this drive topping out at 32x. In the end though, the price of the drive makes this point moot. For just over $100 USD you can have the do-everything drive your small form factor system needs. That's the two reasons I'm awarding this drive our editor's choice award. for one it's the fastest combo drive out, and for two it's the cheapest.

I started this review by saying that Combo drives have made a change for the better. I've proved my point in this review. No longer are they buggy under performers, but drives worthy of consideration for your mini family computers and HTPCs.

It gets a pretty high rating (9/10). If you want to read everything in full click here to head over to the Tech Zone website.
