Samsung introduces 8x dual format DVD writer

While the 8x DVD burner (SR-P80B) Samsung was supposed to have been  released in December last year never showed up it looks like Samsung finally has an 8x burner ready now. The new burner has the model name SH-W08A and it looks to be near identical with Toshiba's SD-R5272. This is not really surprising because Samsung and Toshiba formed an optical storage joint venture in September last year.

Samsung SH-W08A specs

DVD-R/RW 8x/4x

At CeBIT this year Samsung showed the SH-W08A's successor, the SH-W16A, which had very impressive specs including 16x/8x DVD+R/RW, 12x/8x DVD-R/RW, 48x/32x CD-R/RW and support for DVD+R DL (more information is available here and here). It remains to be seen if the final drive will really have these specifications though…

So far it looks like only Samsung Hungary has updated its website with information about the SH-W08A which you can find here. Thanks to zArt in the Recording Hardware Forum for finding the news!
