Samsung has officially introduced its 850 PAVV, a full high-definition 50" TV that measures just 1.14 inches (29mm) in thickness.
The TV is 40 percent more energy efficient than previous Samsung TVs, and also is 20 percent lighter, making it easier to install in the living room. The TV still weighs around 57lbs -- no light task to carry such a TV -- but is still lighter than most other TVs its size.
The TV has USB 2.0 support, while giving viewers the chance to watch DivX movies, photos, or play MP3s and other files directly from a USB thumb drive or external hard disk drive (HDD). The 850 PAVV also has full 1080p resolution support, with other details expected to be released later.

Samsung also is shipping a 58" HDTV, but exact specifications and thickness of that model are not currently available. Furthermore, pricing and release dates for both TVs have not been released by Samsung.
TV manufacturers continue to increase the size of TVs while also working on power efficiency, slimmer form factors and more pleasing designs for the living room. There has been a recent push by manufacturers to release slim HDTVs, with companies aiming for the 1" or smaller thickness.
