Samsung samples 8GB embedded memory card solution

Samsung has begun shipping samples of its 8GB flash memory chip to mobile electronics manufacturers, which is the highest embedded flash memory capacity developed so far.  This moviNAND sample consists of four 50-nanometer, 16Gb NAND flash parts along with a high-speed MMC controller and firmware to support it.  It features twice the capacity and double the performance of its 4GB version and is 10% to 20% smaller than other flash-based embedded memory card solutions currently available.

Other features of this moviNAND include 52MBps transfer rate, low-noise interference and increased security (likely for DRM).  Samsung plans to start mass producing this 8GB moviNAND in the second quarter this year, which will expand its moviNAND flash memory range to from 512MB to 8GB.
