Samsung SH-B022A, SH-B026A Blu-ray burners coming

johnzap used our news submit to tell us about a story he spotted describing some new hardware from Samsung. What we may find interesting, is the internal drive supposedly supports 50GB dual layer discs! They go on to say that the internal model, called the SH-B022A, writes with a speed of 2x. Remember, this is not the same as a 2x speed for DVD, it is faster and quite reasonable for a first generation device. They don't mention if this is just for single layer though. When you invoke the red laser, the drive will write to a standard DVD or CD at 12x and 40x respectively. They say the external burner the SE-B026A, has similar features.

You kind of get excited when you read about this stuff and then you see a line like this: "A direct firmware upgrade function will give the users an always up-to-date device." It's statements like this that makes you want to set back and read a few reviews, before you rush out and plunk down the hard earned for one of these puppies.

As we have been hearing, the new internal burner will cost around 500 bucks for those of us with little or no patience. They are scheduled to hit the retail market in April of this year.

If you want to take a good look at these drives, head on over to Akihabara News for some real nice high resolution images!
