Yes our friends from CDRLabs.com have wrapped up another review. This time they've taken a look at the Samsung SM-332B combo drive which can burn CD's but besides that can also play DVD discs:
Samsung has jumped into the lead once again with the SM-332B. While most of the drives from the competition feature writing speeds of 20x or lower, Samsung's new combo drive is one of the first to feature 32x writing speeds. The SM-332B also features 10x high speed rewriting and 40x CD read speeds, and like Samsung's CD-RW drives, it uses an 8MB buffer and Ricoh's JustLink technology to prevent coasters. Of course, no combo drive would be complete without the ability to read DVD's, and the SM-332B can do this at speeds up to 12x. |
Part of the Conclusion:
With the SM-332B, Samsung has raised the bar for other combo drive manufacturers. With its 32x writing and 40x CD read speeds, it is faster than what most of the competition has to offer. Unfortunately the drive also has a few rough spots that need to be smoothed out before we can crown it as the king of the combo drives.
Like Samsung's CD-RW drives, the SM-332B has a great mix of performance and features at a very affordable price. With it going for around $105 on Pricewatch it is a great deal for anyone on a budget looking for a combo drive with some of the fastest speeds available.
To read what the 'rough spots' of this Samsung combo drive are please head on over to CDRLabs.com and read the complete review. The drive gets an overall score of 9.
