SATA Plextor PX-716A Pioneer 110D PATA comparison at Bit-Tech

This is interesting. Serial ATA drives and their round easy to
use cables, are fast as all get out, when it comes to hard disks. But
what's up with optical serial drives? Wouldn't you think they would offer a
speed increase over our old standby the 40-pin Parallel ATA (PATA) standard.?
Should you consider a serial optical drive for your system? Why not compare the
two flavors to see what the results are.

Belgian
optical specialists, Plextor, are one of the first to dip their digital
toes into the water and release a SATA DVD burner: the PX-716SA. It is a
full monty 16x dual-layer DVD-R/W drive with all the features you would
expect, but obviously eschews PATA in favour of SATA.

Is
there any tangible benefit from moving to a SATA optical drive? We decided
to find out by pitting the SATA Plextor against a venerable stalwart of
the DVD burning club, the Pioneer 110D on
PATA.

Before you go to Bit-Tech, which
drive do you think is the fastest? Is the skinny cable the way to go? You know
you hate those pesky ribbon cables! Ok, here's the link!
Don't forget to come back here and give us your thoughts.
