Scotland opens their first dedicated DVD store in Glasgow

Scottland's first dedicated DVD store will open today in one of Glasgow's top shopping centers, Buchanan Galleries. Due to the exploding growth of home entertainment, especially in the optical disc department, Silverscreen decided they best get with it and head north. With over 7500 titles to choose from, they aren't fooling around either. This store sounds pretty darn impressive. But, like they say on the Saturday Night Live show in the United States: "If it's not Scottish...it's crap!"

Silverscreen has chosen the Buchanan Galleries for its first outlet north of the border as demand for DVD films goes through the roof. Experts say the UK spends Â£2billion a year on DVDs and many titles are now outstripping growth in games, books and CDs. More than half of UK households (55%) own a DVD player and the market is expected to double in the next four years. The new Glasgow store's massive range includes more than 7500 titles.

Each section of the shop, which will take over the ground floor unit formerly occupied by Ciro Citterio, is divided into different genres so films are easy to find. There is also an area where customers can browse film guides and magazines. And there is a large children's section which has a wide range of kids' films with low-level screens.
Silverscreen is the latest high-street name to choose Glasgow city-centre for its first Scottish store.
